News reaching us reveals that Reginald Ebere’s much anticipated soap opera, EYE OF THE NEEDLE has hit some controversy even before the casting call. The ruckus started when the leaders of the ACTOR’S GUILD OF NIGERIA threatened to picket and shut down the auditions scheduled to hold at the very highbrow Kelsey and Greene (K&G) Events Center in Oregun IKEJA where the auditions are supposed to hold on Saturday 9th of March due to the fact that the quiet, unassuming film maker had asked artistes to pay an entrance fee of one thousand Naira for the audition. When we contacted the director, he said that it was a storm in a tea cup. “The issues are basically resolved. I did not ask actors to pay monies. What i am doing is for an NGO and they asked their members to pay some monies for registration. I decided to use my position and help the guild but the move was misunderstood. The problem with us is that we like freebies too much. People pay a lot of money to buy forms for reality television shows where only one person will win the prize. Here i might likely cast over fifty people and they are loathe to pay any money. is it the fifty thousand Naira they might likely pay that will make Reginald Ebere Rich?
I have agreed to rescind the payments however for the sakes of peace not because I agree with the positions of the guild. if i cast any of them in a job and i do not pay the in full they will go to town with my name. Somebody said it was morally reprehensible to ask people to pay for attending an audition. What i find reprehensible are those who are asking actresses to sleep with them before giving them roles in movies. They are the ones standing out and talking rubbish. If some people take this issue beyond this point i will call names. Let’s just leave it at that.”
From what we have gathered, the auditions will still hold as scheduled although Mr. Reginald has insisted that only those with valid Actor’s Guild Identity Cards will be allowed entrance.
